I would agree with the others that name check is a black hole. I had contacted congressman and senators during 'meet the lawmakers', but my contact at the congressmans office said that there is nothing that he can do to help me expediate the name check.
After 3.5 years waiting for my PD to be current i took an infopass appointment only to find out that i am stuck in name check. I had no reason to think about namecheck, i dont even have a parking ticket. Even the immigration officer said that there is nothing much he can do about it. For all other RFE's etc we can provide documentation etc. there is nothing you can do to speed up your name check. if you are stuck then just pray that you get out of this hell hole.
There is a yahoo group called namechecktrackker that was started by an IV member, it has about 1000 members.

This shows that we have anti immigrant members and visitors amongst us looking for IV updates and our actionplans. sometimes such people pose as annonymous users and contact IV asking for updates without revealing who they are and doing anything constructive for IV. We try to be cautious in such cases. Its good that they quoted us as it shows that we are a force to recon with.

It is possible. Such an action would be illegal, but CIS has already stopped accepting I-485 applications for another category known as “Other Workers,” despite June Visa Bulletin showing that category is current. My advice to all of you is keep filing all through the month of July. For all we know, they may never issue such an illegal policy or they might lose a lawsuit filed against them. So keep filing. Let us see the approvals trend till october. I am guessing the PD will move back to MID 2005 or 2004 by October for EB-2 India.

I consider it as a rumor. If you see people on other sites spreading panic, tell them to contact their friend's friend and have him/her contact Immigration voice.
I do not believe that a person who has a house, car, job etc will not be in the right frame of mind to try to come back to USA and will not make any effort. His company, his lawyer will also try to bring him back. He himself will try everything to come back. IV is one option. This is because lot of people contact IV for lot of problems and this is not one of them till now.
The other day I read a post where someone had to postpone his wedding for 6 months due to this panic. This rumor needs to stop because it may hurt people's travel plans. So please post on other websites so that nobody spreads rumors. If someone is a genuine case then they should contact IV .

I feel frustrated at some peoples' unwillingness to admit that EB3 needs IV's help now more than ever. They are saying that nothing much can be done for EB3, as INS merely corrected its wrong interpretation in visa allocation
But, if we are all willing to put our hearts and minds to it we can surely come up with new ideas that will help our cause. Surely, laws are written so that justice can happen. So if justice is not happening, the law would have some answer, somewhere.
Let me put forward my idea.

To all those who are screaming and shouting about "IV collecting Donations and doing nothing", I am not a donor myself, but we have to understand that IV IS THE ONLY platform we (EB community) have. However shaky or small the platform is. It takes a different kind of person to doggedly keep at something as insipid and difficult and immigration relief for EB and to put up with all the brickbats that armchair immigration proponents and to be beneficiaries like us throw at the IV core.
Pappu, I have put forth this idea many times, and will do so again, let IV be a members only forum, with a REASONABLE annual subscrition amount (say equal to themonthly cost of a decent cable/satellite subscription:-)..
This will achieve the following:
(1) Assured, stable fund collection for IV activities
(2) Only genuine IV supporters will sign up.
(3) To some extent, may be, will keep antis away (this is not assured, but may happen)
...Its Friday, so pickup a 6-pack, 12 pack or whatever pack on your way home, and relax...
$25 a month is reasonable. What people want it GC in $25 in less than 6 months. Somehow these same guys do not mind paying lawyers $700 for EAD filing which they could do themselves. In other words they trust lawyers who are clearly have a self interest in you not getting a GC but will not trust one of your kind because these guys think their crummy $25 is being flinched.

The rough estimation is about 500K to 700K new 485s and same amount of EAD and AP applications will be filed in July.

When they took inventory in May, there are about 40,000 documentarily qualified 485 applications were pending due to non-availability of visa numbers. The �documentarily qualified 485 applications� mean the application filed long time back and processed by USCIS and cleared the FBI name and criminal check, and found eligible for green card.
2.IF THESE 40K WERE OTHERWISE QULAIFIED WHY WERE THEY SITTING ON THEM UNTIL MID-JUNE ....TO START WITH? IF THEY WERE SO EAGER TO FOLLOW THE OMBUDSMAN'S GUIDELINES WHY WERE THEY SO SLOW IN USING UP THE VISA NUMBERS UNTIL MID JUNE?
However, the available visas are more than 40,000 (60to 70K). Then they made with out consulting properly with USCIS they made �current� for all EB categories. This is how they determine �current� or �over-subscribed� and how they establish cutoff dates.
3.MORE PRECISE DESCRIPTION WOULD BE THEY WERE COMPLETELY RECKLESS..GIVE A S+I& ABOUT HOW MUCH THEIR ACTIONS AFFECT THE CUSTOMERS.

For his PD, it will take another 10 years for the approval of 485. During this 10 year period, he/she has to live in EAD and AP and need to go for finger print every 15 month.
4.OK..... WHICH PART OF THIS AFFECTED THE STAFF AT USCIS... THE FACT THAT MANY OF US WILL ONLY HAVE EAD FOR 10 YRS OR THE FACT THAT MORE EAD RENEWALS MEANS MORE CUMBERSOME WORK FOR THEM? I'M AFRAID IT IS THE LATER.

My background: I am a desi. I contributed around 300$ or so. I filed my 485 couple of years ago. So I am not that desperate.
Onething about desi's I figured out over a long time, they dont mind spending zillion dollars for attorney fees, USCIS fees, whatever fees. But they really mind paying 20$/month towards IV or anything, if there is a way they can get it for free.
What an epitome of hypocrisy? Non Profit org working towards GC alleviatoon and needs resources for lobbying. Yeah! The Blue skies are showering green on IV every day. How about us working for a Non profit org or EDU for free? They all serve noble causes. Dont they?

Yeah CBP is made up of the most xenophobic people I've met. Even on the Canadian border, as Mexican border it's understandable.
