Students pay either less (edu-discount-not just in the U.S.) for their Mac, buy a refurbished model or buy a used Mac from the previous owner. In the best case, this reduces the price of a previous generation Mac to one third or even to 25 percent of the original price.
And who says, students are rich? You, or what!? *lol*
I know teachers who use pirated software. I mean that's just Unconscionable

i'm in the camp that doesn't care if this developer wants to take his toys and go home. i'm not a huge facebook user... heck... i pretty much only have a facebook account so i can "fan" people or companies to keep up on stuff. i can't be bothered with all that wall posting and the games... OMG the games  i just don't have the time for all that nonsense... so he can go ahead and take his toys.... i'll just read what i need to with the version i have or read it online later when i think about it (which is pretty much what i do now... i'm lucky if i check facebook once a week.)

No hardware in WWDC '11? Apple always said they are about Software and Hardware, well then it wouldn't make sense for them to omit hardware from the conference.
Or am i missing something?
WWDC stands for World Wide Developers Conference.
That means it's for those of us that are software engineers. It's been that way since it began.
The problem is Steve couldn't control himself last year and confused the newer people by talking about the iPhone.
If indeed they keep it on topic this year, there will be no talk or time wasted on hardware. We only have one WWDC each year, hopefully this year Jobs will control himself.

Android Phone Specs are out pacing the Iphone. An 8 Megapixel camera, bigger screen and more memory will keep me buying.
The competition hasn't learned that a huge portion of actual customers don't buy cell phones based on these kinds of hardware specs. And there's not enough money (bottom-line profit) in catering to those fewer customers who do care.

Wow! The battery on my october 2003 iBook completely died ages ago (killed by a faulty power supply), and I haven't been able to justify the cost of a new one. Now I'm getting a new battery free!! Sweet!
In the mean time... unplugging the little sucker. No exploding iBooks in my office! ;)
PS: iBook batteries ZZ338 - ZZ427 are also mentioned on the exchange website, but not in the MR front page story.

Yes. The iPad 2 will be on sale in the Toys For Seniors aisle.

I love this temporary state of chaos, when you know it's fresh from the table, because only half the site has been updated (MB page itself, press release, store have been updated, but front page, product list page etc. hasn't) :D
EDIT: And it's that fresh that everything was updated in the time it took me to type that sentence and click 'post' :D

Lets hope they remaster them - the stereo effects on the original versions can be really painful on a pair of headphones.
Huh??
For one, they would have to be remixed to fix whatever you find wrong with them.
And then -- I can't figure out what you're talking about. I have no problems listening to any Beatles albums in Stereo. They're perhaps wider stereo soundstages than you'd find today (where albums mostly play the same GD thing out of both channels) -- but that makes them sonically interesting, not unlistenable.

EDIT: And btw., as some other users noted, the $129 for Mac OS X is the price for an update..
Well, yes and no. I can do a full install on a Mac with a boxed copy of OSX because the license is in the hardware. You can't do a blank-HDD install of an update version of Windows.

Would absolutely love a higher capacity iPod Classic. While I enjoy having my entire library on my iPod, the issue for me is not the number of songs. It's the quality of the files. I would love to be able to rip at a higher bitrate or even lossless and be able to output those either through headphones or a car stereo. I recognize that the minority are audiophiles. However, there seems to be a push in the industry for higher quality files.

Love your light, where did you get it from?
Thanks, it's a Philips LivingColors LED lamp: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/lighting-systems/livingcolors-clear-080044248/prd/
I don't live in the USA, I'm from the Netherlands. Philips is a Dutch company, so here in the Netherlands you can buy it everywhere.

Hey Apple, way to leave your initial customers with AT&T in the dark. Great thinking! Why would they implement this with Verizon before AT&T? How about just do it at the same time!

How are they coming up with the number of (gun) crimes committed by blacks? That is an important question because it is probably based on convictions. A higher percentage of blacks are arrested for crimes, which is compounded by a system (at least here) that convicts blacks at a higher rate. So, there may be a statistically disproportionate number of crimes committed by blacks, but if the system concentrates that trend, the statistics are going to seem worse than reality.

You are aware that this is a Mac enthusist website.
Doesn't mean facts are not alowed here. I simply stated facts. Apple does not have the best hardware you can not say they do. They make great computers but there are always companies who will make a better product then them. Unlike software witch is a mater of Opinion hardware is a mater of Fact and Fact is apple does not have the best hardware. They purchase their hardware from the same places as everyone else.

Each Sunday I'm going to try to take a wide angle shot of some of the more interesting rooms in my church. The main building was an old mansion with some pretty interesting architecture. Some of the rooms have murals along the tops of the walls. This one is the basement which was a summer parlor and decorated as an English tavern. Those are beer drinking carvings on either side. The floor is Venetian tile.

I just called two of my local Radio Shack's here in NYC and both said that I would be REQUIRED to purchase AppleCare AND a case if I wanted to buy an iPad 2 tomorrow morning. That is ******** and hopefully Apple won't allow it.

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2009/11/12/facebook-iphone-application-developer-quits-over-apples-review-process/)
TechCrunch reported yesterday (http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/11/11/joe-hewitt-developer-of-facebooks-massively-popular-iphone-app-quits-the-project/) that Joe Hewitt, the developer behind the popular Facebook iPhone application, has resigned from the project over his dissatisfaction with the "gatekeeper" model of Apple's App Store review process. In response to a request for comment from TechCrunch, Hewitt explained his views:My decision to stop iPhone development has had everything to do with Apples policies. I respect their right to manage their platform however they want, however I am philosophically opposed to the existence of their review process. I am very concerned that they are setting a horrible precedent for other software platforms, and soon gatekeepers will start infesting the lives of every software developer.
The web is still unrestricted and free, and so I am returning to my roots as a web developer. In the long term, I would like to be able to say that I helped to make the web the best mobile platform available, rather than being part of the transition to a world where every developer must go through a middleman to get their software in the hands of users.Hewitt remains employed at Facebook, but declined to discuss his new role in the company.
Apple has received significant criticism over apparently inconsistent review standards and impersonal communications that have left developers frustrated with the process. Hewitt's comments reveal, however, that his dissatisfaction extends beyond the simple mechanics of the process to the overall model used by Apple, clearly showing his preference for an open system unfettered by reviewers deciding what may and may not be included on the iPhone platform.

I'd suggest that those who's careers are based on maintaining our military can file for unemployment and search the want ads just like everybody else.
Now there is a logical solution
it's a good thing you are not part of the decision making process
