Nice setup, and iMac! What did you do with the Cinema Display?
BTW Your iMac has an ATI GPU, not nVidia ;)
Oh, yeah! you're right! The ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB :o
If you take a look at the last page of Part 12 of this thread, you'll see the Cinema Display is used in that room, looks good:rolleyes:
I still adore the Cinema Displays and I will never sell it. it's an :apple: thing.

One of the best application updates Apple has done in a long time.
Great job Apple. Simply great.
Agreed. iTunes 5 and 6 were a little 'meh' but I'm loving 7 so far.

No. Please god no. I don't know how many of you have done e-books but e-books on anything smaller then a 4" screen sucks. HARD.
What Apple needs to do is come out with a dedicated device. Integration seems the only way they can push into another market at this point. (Shades of MS Windows with [insert anything here.] integration.)
What Apple needs to do is form an alliance with E-Reader / Peanut Press and having it integrate with iTMS. Then come out with an e book reader that uses digital ink. This is the tech that can paint a screen then cut power to the screen yet still have the image remain. In cases such as this we are talking WEEKS of battery life. Use digital ink + Apple's standard design flare + iTMS and I can guarantee people will eat it up.
Does anyone know how big this would be? It would be huge. No beyond huge. Literature is as universally accepted as music. It's used everywhere from text books in schools, to training manuals, to maintenance manuals, to entertainment in the home, to entertainment while you are sitting waiting for the dentist. Imagine subscribing to a magazine and having it downloaded off of iTMS like a podcast.
In short I would sell my first, second, third born sons, and cut off a pinky toe for Apple to release an e-book reader. This is Sony's attempt:
http://dynamism.com/images/extra/DSCN0862.jpg
No one in the market has done the design right yet. There is this huge market waiting for someone to step up to the plate and get it done right, easy, and elegant. Sound familiar?
But above all please PLEASE PLEASE dont integrate it into the iPod. It would be doing major disservice to the emerging industry.
On second thought, silicon addict, you just might be right. big enough to read on just might be too big for the ipod. hrm.

I said if my dad ever met John Lennon: that meant that JL is about the only one with musical talent in the Beatles. Try reading a little bit better next time.
And suggesting, or even blatantly stating, that Beatles and Madonna have transcended music more than Bach is about as musically stupid as it comes. Bach not only wrote his own music (Madonna just drops into a studio every now and then), he could also conduct orchestras (the Beatles could do one thing individually; that's why they are called the Fab FOUR), his impact on developing Baroque music is unquestioned and his composition skills and musical knowledge have been admired by the likes of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven.
24 must be your musical IQ; get some education before you enter discussions like this.
I think you need to do a little history reading on The Beatles before you embarrass yourself even more.
Seriously.

Figures they'd try to go after something that isn't written into the OS since we all know how hard that is.
Do you know what a computer without drivers is? A paperweight. The OS is not a single monolithic thing; it's made up of many components. The notion of what is "written into the OS" is more complicated than you seem to think, and it's childish to dismiss a vulnerability because it's in a driver.
They simply chose a Mac to be a cock. How's that for smugness?
Actually it's the smug attitude of so many Mac owners that makes them such satisfying targets. You reap what you sow. I've been using Macs since 1984 (and PCs about as long) and Mac users get on my nerves sometimes.

Just wanted to add my voice to those who are now experiencing success in getting their serial number through. Mine wasn't recognised earlier this afternoon, but worked fine just now. Patience is all I can advise really - the website gradually seems to be getting up to speed.
Re Cogsinister and others using deliberately altered serial numbers - shame on you. Such selfishness and thoughtlessness could greatly inconvenience the legitimate owners of the battery whose serial you used.

I doubt it since this is the World Wide DEVELOPERS Conference...I wouldnt classify an imac as a developmental machine.
Although they did give all the developers who 'rented' the 'Intel Development Kit' from WWDC '05 a Intel iMac when they were released in January. ;)
Also, kids, this is what we should be discussing:

All I care about right now is if this will run on a Mac pro 1,1. And if so, and it is using all cores finally, will there be a big performance increase on my system over my current FCP6.
If the answer is yes to both I'm in. I won't be impressed however if they artificially lock out older Macs.

The legendary butcher cover.
My brother in law bought the regular cover "Yesterday and Today" album for 25 cents at a garage sale, but underneath the placid regular cover was this gory one.
He then called our friend who owned a local used record shop. The record store owner urged him not to peel off the front image, even though my brother in law was curious as to what may be underneath that wholesome photo of the Beatles. Despite its estimated value at that time (early 90's) being $1,000 dollars, he steamed off the regular cover to reveal the butcher cover and thus dropped the value of the LP by half the amount. The record shop owner was distraught!
The most sought after cover is the censored "safe" one with this gore hiding underneath it. Today a cover like this, with all the blood and gore, would not upset anyone.
I knew of someone that had the Butcher cover (pealed) and it wasn't worth as much as an original. The record store I used to frequent back in the day, did have an original (claimed it was purchased at a store, even though many collectors refute that was even possible). Regardless, it was on display at the store and collectors did determine it was NOT a pealed version. Estimates placed it at around $10,000 at the time (early 80's)
I wonder, given these times of a cover like that not causing too much of a stir, if a reissue would ever be released? I'm sure the collectors would balk at such a thing, but the rest of us wouldn't mind owning something like that.

I agree 100% with your assessment. I am certain that Apple will be modifying the Finder in the final release of Leopard (They have in every other major OS X release), and I fully expect to see that at a major demo at MWSF 07. I feel that's really where we're going to see Leopard, and hopefully by then, Vista will have gone GM, but who knows...
I don't see how adjusting the UI at the last minute could be any sort of OK. Do you really want developers using the Tiger finder for the next 7 months, and then all of the sudden Apple goes BAM (Emeril Style) and puts in a brand new finder.
I want those developers to be able to integrate the finder with their apps. If all Apple is doing is adjusting some colors or icons or something, then we shouldn't be excited about the new finder in the first place. But if Apple is going to do some major revamping, shame on them for keeping it a secret.
People need time to work with it and find all the kinks, especially if it is dramatically different from Tiger.

the key issue in my case was that my macbook couldn't go to sleep or be closed, everytime it woke up, it wouldn't last longer than 3 seconds and then shut down and all of the other known symptoms.
I ran the firmware upgrade and it works fine now, it's not hot or anything and the fans seem to be working at a normal pace.
Well, I am grateful for the fact that I don't have to turn in the mac for 5 days or more for servicing... I make a living out of this thingy...:D

If apple does this right, it would be awesome. A screen similar to the sony ereader for reading and widescreen for movies.

Single? There are multiple?
what are you talking about?
once you sync your iDevice to one itunes account, you can't plug it into a different computer and transfer their photos, apps, music, etc. to your device without completely restoring it to that itunes account. This has nothing to do with never charging your phone.

It's appropriate that Toys'r'Us would carry the iPad 2, an overpriced toy.
Right, which is why Fortune 500 companies, education, and the medical industry is quickly adopting them. Maybe you need to open your mind a little to possibilities rather than obsess over one small aspect of the iPad.

Even though iTunes says that 5g ipods are up to date software version 1.2 is in there...
You must restore the ipod and it will restore using software update 1.2
note that this does NOT give search function, but it does provide compatability for games and the newly released 640x480 movies/videos

Is OSX going to get an optional Black skin? (for the new black macbooks) Since Tiger had an alluminium X?
Well, the design of the Tiger DVDs at WWDC 2004 didn't indicate much about Tiger, and weren't even the final DVD design.
I just hope they try to stabilize on one UI design, instead of continually adding another new "exception" every year. (Unless, of course, they add full skinning capability. I highly doubt that will happen with 10.5, though.)
In addition to my promise to run around naked and post the video to the Internet if iMac gets Conroe, I will do the same if they introduce a phone at WWDC.
Not happening.
You probably should have said: "...if they introduce an Apple phone at WWDC." Because if they introduce another new Motorola phone, it will satisfy your stated requirements. ;)

I switched to apple so I wouldn't have problems with customer support. This is ridiculous. The website is completely screwed up (Apple admits this) because of the hits from the battery issue. And the worst part is, the battery isn't my problem.
Sure, I have a defective macbook pro battery, but when I sent it in for repair on the 4th, it was for dark spots on the screen and some other random issues. They told me it would be fixed in a couple days. It's been gone for weeks, and after talking to people on the phone for hours, they finally told me that they weren't sure what was going on, but that they think it's fixed, and that it is just being tested (even though the site, when it was working days ago, said it had been repaired and was pending shipping on the 19th.) But they can't tell me when it will be back, and that it might take another week. I'm moving in a matter of days, and was told this should be a quick fix. This is really, really obnoxious. And all they can say is "sorry." At what point do they offer me a concession? At what point can the consumer say forget it, this computer is only a couple months old, give me a brand new one off the store floor. Ridiculous. I have more complaints, back my extreme irritation at the situation prevents me from launching a cogent argument.
I sincerely hope everyone else is having a much better experience than I/
