A lot of users don't mind if they get crap, as long as it's cheap crap. I can't count the number of times I've heard recently people saying that all they want from their computer is to be able to surf the web, check email, and do a Word document.
Unfortunately, these people may say that they only use their computer for that. Of course when they see their friends using digital cameras and printing photos, they all of a sudden decide that they can do that on their computer, and next thing you know they have a copy of Photoshop running that they "copied" from a friend and they are complaining because their computer is too slow.
This is why I think that Apple has it right with one, full-featured version of their software. The pricing tiers are just an excuse for Microsoft to charge $400 a computer for businesses, while ripping off the consumer who doesn't know any better by selling a sub-standard product.

Apple likes firewire, they made it. eSATA is nice, but you can't daisy chain the drives. That's why I like firewire so much.

About a year ago, my PowerBook G4 12" had a battery recall. Now I go to the website to check my replacement battery, and it appears to fall into the range of the recall again. However, I tried entering my information in the website and the form rejected the battery serial number even though I double-checked that it was within the range.
Now the website appears to be down (cannot connect, no timeout or anything).

I'm curious if that is the reason for the Brazil plant. Brazil is famous for having insane prices on foreign technology. This could bring down prices for Brazilian customers. Maybe it'll only be making iPads for brazilians and whatever neighbor countries have good import/export deals with Brazil.
It's clear that Brazilians will benefit from lower prices (an iPad there costs $1000 as opposed to $400 in the US); besides, BR is the main leader within the MERCOSUL region (Southern Cone Common Market), where members benefit from an "almost free market" among themselves. This is far from being as well implemented as is the case for the EU, but represents already a good advancement in intra-regional trade.
Depending on rules of origin parameters, Apple products may, indeed, be exported to other South American countries at good rates...but make no mistake: even if local production/labor costs are high in BR, it may still make sense to diversify logistics and supply-chain from Asia to other parts of the world and still make good money (like Ireland, Czech Republic and Brazil now).

Is anyone else having the issue with the double vibrate when you get a text?? I had this issue with 4.3 and I have heard no complaining about it. Everyone I know who has 4.3 has the double vibrate so it's not just my phone, but I haven't heard anyone else say anything. It's pretty annoying. Anyway, I was just wondering if this fixed that issue or not.

AT&T still has people on $30 unlimited because they are grandfathered in. So will VZW, if they actually change the plans.

There should be a law that states anytime a US company chooses to manufacture something outside the US, the company must post a clearly-articulated-less-than-25-page document stating AND COMPARING why the US is unable to manufacture said product.
Obviously companies build outside of the U.S. because it doesn't make financial sense to do so. U.S. labor is expensive in comparison to developing nations. Why is that so hard to understand?
Also if you look at the non-U.S. companies that have factories in the U.S. they are all in "right to work" states, so dealing with unions might be a factor too.

My two cents:
Glasses-free 3D in its current iteration seems hardly more than a gimmick. Viewing angles are bad, viewing distance is wacky, and it causes headaches after prolonged use. Not to mention the tech required increases the thickness of the panels.
For Apple to implement this type of technology, it would probably need to develop an in-house solution (or at least something after close corroboration with another company). Since few - if any - rumors to that effect have surfaced, it seems reasonable to believe that any such venture is at the very least not particularly close to fruition.
And even assuming they had the propriety tech, I agree with many others on this forum who believe the implementation would increase the price fairly dramatically. My guess is that Apple will strive to maintain their competition-bustingly low prices.

I just downloaded the update, it told me something failed and I need to restore my iPhone. I am on try 3 and it is still failing every time it tries to restore. It's giving me error code 1013. I would stay away from this update for at least a day or two until others give feedback. It doesn't seem to be that critical of an update anyways.
Same thing happened to me... I had to use Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery mode and then it was fine.

I love how everybody is like "I've got the CDs who cares" or "Buy the CDs they are cheaper". The Beatles on iTunes isn't for you. It is for people who don't buy CDs, it's for the future when the majority of people get digital music and it's certainly for a whole generation of kids who won't know what a CD is or care, in the same way that vinyl is now seen as archaic.
I'm sure I am repeating someone else's thoughts, but it doesn't seem clear to a lot of people.
It's too bad that these kids will never know how much better sounding a CD can be over 256kbs. I put applelossless on my iPod and when I let someone listen they usually say wow! it sounds so good.

Looks like im defo affected. Sigh....there is nothing wrong with my battery it works fine and has good recharge cycles. Looks like it's time to call Apple BUT might wait till waaay down the line when majority have done theirs

After reading this article (http://gizmodo.com/343246/what-to-expect-at-macworld-2008-and-why-we-think-it-will-bigger-than-usual) I think that it's entirely possible that Apple are altering their branding. Also the lack of an Apple logo could be explained by the fact that everyone at the expo would recognise it as them anyway and it adds to the air of secrecy and mystery that they love to use in their marketing.

Strange, because everyone said that Apple would release the MB and MBPs on the 12th, but not all of a sudden it shifted to the iMac :confused:
iMacs are overdue. Sure if they can put the C2D in the MBPs great, but the iMacs got the G5 when the PBs only had the G4, so moving to a C2D should not be held back now its out.

iTunes now provides access to an "Album Artist" tag which should help keep those duets and other collaborations in line without having to declare them as compilations.

I don't see how adjusting the UI at the last minute could be any sort of OK. Do you really want developers using the Tiger finder for the next 7 months, and then all of the sudden Apple goes BAM (Emeril Style) and puts in a brand new finder.
Just because they aren't showing the Finder yet doesn't m ean they will only spring it on devs the day that Leopard ships commercially. There's a significant amount of time between now and then.
Probably when they do though, it will be under NDA, and they'll try and keep as much of it under wraps for as long as possible.

I know what you mean, all those restrictions and regulations prohibiting the dumping of chemicals in the rivers and poison gasses into the air or killing endangered animals.
