I am trying to decide if you are serious. I suspect most people here understand what a cache is. I think most have a pretty good idea about cell tower triangulation. We are the people SJ is talking about. I'm not sure what the point about understanding technology is about - why do we NEED to know how a smartphone does what it does? It would be nice to understand what features can be turned off if we feel it is outside our comfort zone.
A user may not be bothered about his firewall, he wants it to do what it supposed to. Do you think that the average person would be happy that it sends a feed of the traffic back to the OEM to target the owner for advertising? I seem to remember Belkin had a similar issue some years ago and hurriedly rushed out a firmware update after it was caught.
I'm not talking about people here, on an technology-related internet forum - I'm talking about the people on the street who heard about this and could only imagine this story was about Apple tracking their users. Most people are not aware of the process involved in finding your location. It could definitely be said that they could benefit from being educated.

I think Apple will incorporate this type of functionality into their first phone. Why the heck else would people buy it, because it's pretty?! It has to have enough sweet features to convince people to drop their current phone and maybe even contract, otherwise it's going to be a huge and very very well publicized flop. They've gotten a lot of free press lately on the iPhone so they can't screw this up or the general public (not just us mac geeks) will hear about it.

What difference does it being a phone make? If Mac OS was the most popular OS on laptops, would that make any difference? I guess it would be a cool talking point, but the fact would remain that Windows is still more popular overall.
Android having a larger percentage of phone penetration (versus OS penetration) is a similar figure. Cool talking point, maybe, but absolutely useless as an actual data point.
On the points that matter (OS penetration, individual device sales, developer revenue, available software), iOS is ahead.

HELP !
i had jailbreak on my 4.3.1 ios, but needed to remove it before going into apple to see the genius bar..
but i updated and restores on itunes and now i cant kick of recovery, i have gone to tiny umbrella and tried kick out and also unchecked the box saying set hosts to cydia on exit?
please help quickly my appointment is soon :(

Mi powerbook g4 wont boot. I just erase and reinstal mac osx, reset NVRam, and use disk utilities to repair HD. But nothing seams to work and in fact i belive it came out worts. The sytems works perfect in safe mode, but in normal mode it just stay in a blue screen, the fan continue to work but nothing else happens.
I reallyneed help because no mac service will be available for some days and I am in desperate need to work on my laptop.

I just got a 2.8 i7 Quad Core iMac, and I wouldn't mind helping out if someone would outline the steps for me. I already installed seti@home, but the application is only using one core, which really bugs me. I wont be able to dedicate my machine 24/7, but on the down time, or when I leave the room I wouldn't mind leaving it on.

If you are commenting on what you do, then its people like you that make the studios demand limits on legitimate customers like me.
Imagine buying a car but the manufacturer keeping the wheels when you are not using it. Its stops car theft, but its a pain in the ass for the user.

Napster was AWESOME! It worked, had few viruses (at least in the beginning) and was fast for the time. Ah, good memories of getting home from middle school and loading up...
Ugh, now we get HDCP. Reminds me of that DIVX thing they pushed back in the day. Every time new stuff comes along, they try and DRM the crap out of it. Good thing DIVX went down in flames.
PS: DIVX is not the codec for video, it was a "self-destructing" DVD variant.

Personally, I find theocracy distasteful, but to describe Shari'a as stupid extremist ideology is absurd. From what I have read of it, much is a fairly reasonable social code. Hardly any worse than what prevailed through most of Europe's history.
Are you frickin kidding? Sharia law IS stupid extremist ideology. That's the only way to describe it. Maybe you should read some more. No, better yet, go live in a country that has it. When you get 99 lashes for expressing your religious beliefs, we'll see how "reasonable" you think it is. Why are you talking about europe's history and comparing it with sharia law today? Yes it was bad, but we're in the 21st century now and europe has changed quite a bit, and for good reason. Countries with sharia law are barbaric and seem to be intent on staying in the 15th century.
