You don't have a choice, as far as I know. If you're in NY, it has to go to Atlanta. I'm from NJ, went to Atlanta. Atlanta is very very slow. I've been waiting for three months now.

On USCIS status, it says.." On October 11, 2007, we received this I485..." .
Processing time for TSC is Aug07.. Does this mean my case will not processed now?
There is no telling, there are already some approvals where the ND is in OCT and TSC approved those. Online it always shows ND as your RD. Be Hopeful.

Can you please let me know , CURRENTLY how long labor thru perm is taking to get approved.
Earlier it used to get approved in few days.
I am looking at how much time it is taking currently to get approved.

There are just too many fond memories to share in one post... but I do want to specially thank leo2606 who drove 70 miles to pick up myself, venkygct, vsraja and punjabi at the Dulles airport and then took us out for breakfast, then to the rally venue, then for lunch, finally to a hotel room we had booked for a quick shower, basically... like a shadow he was with us wherever we wanted to go! And... whenever we thanked him (and gdhiren who co-ordinated pickups/dropoffs for many others like the 4 of us) these guys, instead of saying something like "You are welcome", would profusely thank us for flying in!
Its people... like leo2606 and gdhiren.. and many others are the true strength of IV!

I have received messages from people who have been here around 10 years without a GC. I wonder how common this is. What do you think about proposing a "fast track" for people who have been here legally for more than a certain amount of time?

She obviously cannot wait till Oct 1st or she won't get paid for the first week (at least). Contact the SSN office to find out how soon you have to file. In my opinion, you are eligible to get an SSN the moment you receive work authorization (even if its for a future date).

Hi IV members!
I know many of us have been toying with ideas to increase membership. I wanted to start a separate thread just to highlight the following idea - Every member bring one additional member to IV.
Specifically, these are the bullet points I suggest:
1. By December 31, each of you bring one member to IV.
If you really think about it, it is not a difficult task. Every one of us knows atleast one person stuck in GC process, that is talking conservatively. It takes less than 15 minutes to call one person and explain IVs efforts and request his/her support.
2. By January 15, each of us take responsibility to get the member we brought to IV to contribute to the cause. And I am not suggesting any particular amount.
3. Each of take responsibility in having them update their information on IV website, so that when the need arises, they can be contacted (for sending webfaxes etc. like last week).
Also, whenever you bring someone to IV, please post on this thread (it will encourage others). I feel this approach will work, if we keep this thread alive, and try to stick to the time deadline (deadlines might not have worked before, because they were too long term).
Also, please keep this thread on track, without any other discussions.
So IV'ers, lets add ONE member, and get ONE contribution!!!!

OPT going on H1

I am on OPT expiring soon.. My employer filed for H1 and got approved for oct 1st. I will be out of status for sometime so I plan to go on H4( I am married) . Now one lawyer told me that If I apply for H4 my H1 approval will become invalid and I will have to reapply for H1. i.e if I do not have I 94 attached to the approval ( however I just got approval notification . no documents received yet , so no way to know if i have I 94 attached) Another Lawyer said thats not the case. He said I can go on H4 with a validity till

The president has endorsed the Senate approach and Tuesday indicated he does not regard such an approach as "amnesty" because illegal immigrants would have to get behind legal immigrants in line for citizenship. well red and green u dont have to be so harsh.. a desi is willing to tell and share his success lets listen.. i know its pretty difficult to outsmart the people who have invested thousand of hours .
last 4 yr of study tells me there is money to make , fastest way to make money..you have to make sure its safe..
so i will like the idea of a yahoo group... i have spend almost 4yr * 2 to 3 hrs daily.. didnt make much money at all... but i can honestly tell you there is lot of oppurtunity here.. as long as you can spend time and be patient.. read stockbee blog its a good start.
i like to hear trading strategy from anyone who is doing good..as long as they dont start selling snake oil..
We can create a small area within IV forums for people to share knowledge on various non immigration subjects. What do you think?

There is no harm in adding this also as the fifth item along with the existing 4 items. :D
I think CITIZENShip years Credit or Reduction in the years is Make most sense for the highly skilled immigrant from India and China as those are the people who suffers most because of backlog and name check.
I also think we should stick to the "five year federal taxes paid" beacuse that is what they expect from normal family based GC holder. Also adding Masters and Higher degrees in the STEM fields attract possible more support.
We should not talk any where close to 10 /15 years waiting time as that is not what current system of citizesnship talks about.
Also marriage based GC already has 3 years after GC rule so it may beeasy to get it.
Making it more complicated like Percent credit for before GC filing, after GC filing, after getting GC May become hard and complicated to convenince politicains who might be amending those rules.
So Keeping it simple - 5 yr federal taxes, MS or higher in STEM, 3 years after GC - you get citizenship (all of these has precedents)

I see that you are just before me. I followed threads for number predictions but it seems there aren't many people doing predictions for Eb3.
I have read here or somewhere that there are only 150 to 300 GCs per month for Eb3 india If it is true then it will take more than a couple of years to get to you as there are 8000+ candidates before you.
Have you seen any calculation for Eb3 any where?
