It is more than likely a computer glitch but it's always worth it to check with the USCIS. A few years ago the status on one my approved old H-1B cases changed from Approved to Initial Review. It shows the same (Initial Review) status till date. It did not affect my current and/or future H-1B approvals.

what makes u think that he would be banned for asking such questions - if IV is busy may be some senior members can answer.

The immigration bill before the U.S. Senate just died, likely preventing any more action on the volatile issue until after the 2008 presidential elections.
Supporters of President Bush's plan to legalize millions of illegal immigrants and create a new guestworker program fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed in a test vote this morning. That vote would have limited debate on the bill and cleared the way for passage later this week, but senators voted 53-46 against that plan, killing the bill.
The vote was a huge setback for President Bush, who from the beginning of his presidency has sought to change the nation's immigration laws while beefing up border security.
Republican conservatives, including Texas' U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, opposed the plan, calling it amnesty for people who broke the law by entering the country without proper documents

Last week lot of people got LUD as 08/05/2007 and no one got any receipts or checks cashed.
I don't think it means anything at this point.

Called the NSC on wed and today....and was told that I need to wait 90 days from the date of submitting the 485 to receive a receipt number. Expecting something similar in todays update.....thats a pretty long wait.

I have recently changed my job using AC21. My new employer has filed H-1B transfer and I also had two years of EAD
While filling up the I-9 form I have used EAD alien #, when I checked the emplyer HR they said that I-9 stays in the office and they do not send its copy to USCIS so my question is how USCIS knows that whether I am on EAD or H-1 B ?
Can I treat myself on EAD and H-1B both

check with your lawyer. you should be able to ue the same labor unless the laws have changed. It is my understanding that if you file an MTR right away you get to retain your LABOR CERTIFICATION and that then allows you to file another I140 under EB3

I entered US in 2001 on H1B and have not left the country since then. Unfortunately within few months of coming to US, I had a fight with my wife and was charged of domestic violence. This charge was later reduced and I was convicted of a simple battery.
Now if I travel overseas and come back on AP (I intend to use my approved AP instead of going for H1B stamping), can I be denied entry to US at port of entry because of my criminal charge?
Anyone in the same situation or know someone in this situation? Was there any issue in there re entry into US?

IV is for legal immigrants. But what if a legal immigrant is a pedophile? Will this forum provide advice to such people? We can either take the approach that IV is for all legal immigrants, criminals or otherwise. Or we can say that we have to draw the line somewhere. This is a decision we have to take as a community. While I don't decide for this community, my opinion is that those who have been convicted for DUI, wife beating, etc should not benefit from this site.

We were successful in getting good media coverage with flower campaign. Our San Jose rally is getting good regional coverage. Yes, we haven't had the expected success with national media yet but we are gaining traction at an amazing pace.
This is not a big corporation with some PR dept. that is working with hundred of employees writing press releases et al. Volunteers like you and me have to take on that action item if you want to see results otherwise please continue on with your discussion
That is absolutely right, it is our job to write to reporters and call them, if we want good publicity. Please digg, write to reporters, do not just wait on the sidelines and see if we have gotten any coverage. We wont get any by just being on the forums discussing.
On a second note, gsc999 worked very hard organising the San Jose rally, and personally I saw a lot of dedication on his part and some other members. People came upto him and asked him to arrange another rally next week. He answered it very well. Why dont people take ownership and organise things on their own, rather than just giving out suggestions and expecting other people to do the tough work.

You are good to go after Jan 22 2008 for using AC21 (be on safe side until Jan 23 2008).
You can apply for EAD by your self and if you need help let me know. I have documentation for this (it is very simple and as other friends suggested, it is in IV website) but still if you need documentation let me know.

USCIS had issued a Direct Filing Update which stated that if the application was filed after July 30, it would have to be filed at the center which has jurisdiction over the state the applicant lives in, which in your case is Massachusetts.
USCIS has been transfering a lot of applications between the various service centers lately due to the July fiasco. Based on reports from the Ombudsman, USCIS is trying to avoid any unnecessary rejections, and take a more 'customer service' based approach, so hopefully you will be ok, and they'll just transfer the case to the appropriate service center.
I'm not a lawyer by any means, so please use this advice at your own discretion.
